INC 2244 Scale Inhibitor Intermediate is an aqueous solution of a partially neutralized low molecular weight polyacrylic acid for use in scale inhibitor formulations. INC 2244 will inhibit both carbonate and sulfate scale by stopping nucleation and crystal growth. Effective scale control results at concentrations from 5 to 20 ppm of INC 2244, with 6 to 10 ppm being generally considered to be a safe level. INC 2244 formulations are effective in prevention of all types of calcium scales and will inhibit deposition of barium sulfate scale where inorganic and organic phosphates fail to perform. INC 2244 is also an excellent choice for scale squeeze applications, with a temperature stability in excess of 400 ºF. The life expectancy of a squeeze has historically lasted about one year. INC 2244 Scale Inhibitor Intermediate is field-titratable, which results in extremely fast and easy residual determinations.

    Usage Information
    • INC 2244 may be diluted to 20% to 25% by volume in tap water to formulate a field strength product. Should the product need to be winterized, we recommend using Ethylene Glycol for optimum compatibility.
    • Typically, 30% by volume of Ethylene Glycol will reduce the freeze point of the field-strength product to about +5 ºF.
    • Alcohols should not be used for winterization due to compatibility issues with the polymer.
    • Products containing INC 2244 intermediate are applied by conventional techniques such as continuous injection via a chemical injection pump.
    • Treatment by batch methods may also be effective. Recommended treatment rates for a field strength product at 20% dilution strength should be in the 45 to 60 ppm range for effective control of scale formation and deposition. Ultimately, the treatment rates can usually be further optimized once the product is being injected into a water system and its performance evaluated.
